Our Austin psychiatric team is qualified to help patients cope with a range of mental health conditions. Before we can provide the needed care, though, we need to understand what you are struggling with. During a psychiatric evaluation, we can get to know your symptoms and establish a baseline for your treatment plan. This initial appointment can be a huge step forward on your journey to improved wellness! Contact us today to set up your evaluation or to learn more about what to expect from our team.

What Is Involved in a Psychiatric Evaluation?

The goal of a psychiatric evaluation is for our team to gain insight into your present circumstances and your goals for treatment. We tailor each evaluation to individual patients.

During your appointment, you can expect us to discuss:

  • Your current behaviors, including habits and tendencies that may cause harm.
  • Other symptoms, such as uncharacteristic feelings and thought patterns.
  • How your behaviors and symptoms are affecting your daily life.
  • Your personal and family history of behavioral, emotional, and developmental disorders.
  • Your complete medical history.
  • The results of lab tests or the need for additional lab tests.

Your appointment may take anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes; we want to be as thorough as possible! Please be open and honest as you answer questions. Remember, there are no wrong answers, and our team is not here to judge you. The better we understand your situation, the more we will be able to help.

What Happens After a Psychiatric Evaluation?

After your evaluation, we will be able to recommend your next steps on your path to improved mental wellness. For example, we may recommend talk therapy, medications, or a combination of both. We will answer your questions about the proposed treatment plan so you can move forward with confidence.  After you get started on treatment, we will periodically check to see how you are feeling so we can make any needed adjustments.
